Vanguard Ranch
Located in rural Louisa County, Vanguard Ranch is an innovator in Central Virginia’s small farm movement, and owners, Renard and Chinette Turner, are forward thinking and passionate about the changes they are making to our food shed – one goat-kebob at a time. The Turners’ 93-acre farm revolves around a robust herd of free-range commercial meat goats working to clear land as well as produce valuable compost for the farm’s heirloom vegetable and herb crops, currently sold to specialty grocers and through Local Food Hub. In addition to wholesale vegetable production, the Turners have tapped into the value added producer market, through their exclusive line of ready-to-eat goat meat products – including curried goat, goat kebabs and goat burgers. They sell these direct to the consumer through their website and from their certified mobile concession trailer.
In 2012, Vanguard Ranch will be supplying Local Food Hub with fresh greens, carrots, beets, squash, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, and green beans, spanning three seasons and comprising a large portion of their total vegetable production.
