At the end of September, we joined UVa Sustainability on grounds to sample apples and promote the UVa Green Challenge! Lots of students stopped by to nibble on local treats and make a pledge to support local food, family farms, and healthy eating.
Local Food Hub team member Lisa even demonstrated her own dedication to green living by transporting apples via stroller (it gets great gas mileage!).
Our partnership with the University of Virginia dates all the way back to our early days in 2009. Since that time, we’ve worked hard to put fresh, locally grown fruits, vegetables, and meat on lunch lines and retail shelves in all of the dining facilities on grounds. But there’s still work to be done — which is why these pledges are so important.
Please share your interest in and support for local food with your dining representatives and fellow students, and make sure the folks at the top know that you want local food options in your dining hall. Take it from us — it makes a difference!
You can check out all of the UVa Sustainability pledges on their Facebook page.
