Gone Pickin’
If you’ve never tasted a wineberry, now would be a good time to get your hands on some. This red jewel of a fruit, which tastes something like the lovechild of a raspberry and an orange, is ripe now and the season is short! Luckily for you, we’ve got the low-down on how you can get a taste, and make a few dollars while you’re at it.
Lisa Gorsch of (the aptly named) Wineberry Farm is looking for pickers! Join her in North Garden (12 minutes from downtown C’ville) anytime between June 25 – July 3 and help harvest berries. You’ll get $1.50 per pint, and Lisa reports that it’s possible to pick 6 to 7 pints per hour…which means $9 – $10/hour is very doable. Most picking is in partial or full shade, but morning and evening hours are best in this kind of heat! You may also consider long sleeves and cinching pants — it is tick season after all.
So grab some friends or family — groups always make things fun — and have an adventure. And don’t blame us for your newfound wineberry addiction.
Please RSVP directly to Lisa Gorsch at (434) 979-1282 or Lisa@mostlysheep.com.
Enjoy!
