Our Services
Local Food Hub is a nonprofit service organization based in Charlottesville, VA working to develop a sustainable and replicable local food distribution model. We offer expertise and real world experience on developing local food systems, scaling up local food supply, and increasing community access to fresh food. Our consulting services are geared towards groups considering starting a food hub or just interested in how ours works, and include:
Tours and Q&A Sessions
There is nothing more valuable than seeing the nuts and bolts of a food hub at work. Bring your colleagues or a group for a tour of our warehouse and/our our educational farm. Come prepared with questions and we’ll answer them thoughtfully and honestly. This work ain’t easy — you should know what you are getting into and with these tours, you will.
One-on-One Phone Conversation
We love to share, but we have work to do! If you can’t find what you are looking for on our website or on this food hub webinar we participated in, let’s schedule a time to talk.
Speaker Fees
Occasionally, we make it off the farm and out of the warehouse to share our experiences with a larger audience. Availability is limited.
More information on these services and associated fees is available by request. Please send us an email at info@localfoodhub.org for a full fee-schedule.
Testimonials
From a recent visit by West Virginia Food & Farm Coalition:
Our visit to Local Food Hub gave us a very honest and informative picture of what it takes to start a serious aggregation and distribution operation for local produce. Kate Collier, LFH’s Director, did not shy away from answering our most difficult and detailed questions on topics ranging from insurance coverage to food safety to the details of LFH’s annual budget. We had several farmers and economic developers in our group who are serious about the idea of starting food hubs in their own regions, and the high level of transparency that Kate was able to provide regarding LFH’s operations was absolutely necessary for them to understand whether a model like this could work for them, and what it would take for the model to sustain itself. The facility tour and relaxed Q&A format with Kate were well-suited to our knowledgeable crowd. We were all grateful for the experience!
